A 57 year old man dies while harvesting coconuts in sweltering heat
A tragic incident unfolded as a 57 year old man, known for working hard, collapsed and died amidst a pile of aromatic coconuts. Police are investigating the cause of death, with initial reports indicating no history of chronic illness.
Yesterday, November 5, Phisin Nupinit, a deputy investigator from Bang Khonthi District Police Station, received a report about a man found dead in a coconut grove in Bang Yi Rong subdistrict, Bang Khonthi district, Samut Songkhram province.
The police quickly responded to the scene, accompanied by Supakorn Limthanabodee from Napalai Hospital, Adisak Srimongkol, the assistant village headman of Moo 10, Onchan Wirachaisawin, the village head of Moo 8, and the rescue team from Sanpharachain Samut Songkhram Foundation.
Upon arrival, the team discovered the lifeless body of 57 year old Wichian, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt and long trousers. He was found lying on a gravel road leading into the coconut plantation, next to a pile of coconuts he had just harvested.
His face was covered in gravel, and there were injuries on his mouth, with gravel found inside his mouth and nose. It was determined that he had died less than an hour before the police arrived.
Mongkol, a 57 year old colleague of Wichian, recounted the events leading to the tragic incident. The two men were regularly hired to gather aromatic coconuts.
While they were busy collecting coconuts, Wichian suddenly fell face-first onto the gravel road, struggling to breathe. Mongkol immediately turned him over, attempted CPR, and called for help. Unfortunately, their efforts to save Wichian’s life were unsuccessful, reported KhaoSod.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Wichian had no known history of chronic illnesses. However, it is suspected that his strenuous work routine, combined with his age and the sweltering heat, could have led to a heart attack resulting in his sudden collapse.
To confirm the exact cause of death, Wichian’s body has been sent to the forensic department at Ratchaburi Hospital for a thorough autopsy.
