J-Hope of BTS to begin mandatory military service
The 29 year old singer had previously applied for a postponement
J-Hope of BTS has become the second member of the K-pop group to begin his mandatory military service in South Korea.
J-Hope, a member of K-pop supergroup BTS, has cancelled his request to delay enlistment, the group’s agency said Sunday, in a move to join the country’s military service.
The 29 year old singer had previously applied for a postponement but now Big Hit Music (the band’s label) says he has pulled the request and will enlist in the military.
A note posted to Weverse, a fan community platform said…
“We would like to inform our fans that J-Hope has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement.”
BigHit Music did not provide a specific time frame on when he will join the military, saying only it will make an announcement as soon as the notice of enlistment is available, but on the same day J-Hope let the BTS Army know that a new single is coming within the next week.
On Sunday, HYBE revealed that “On the Street” would arrive at midnight on Friday, March 3, accompanied by a new music video. J-Hope himself “participated” in the writing of the track, which the label described as a “lo-fi hip-hop track with easy-listening melody and warm-hearted lyrics.”
Jin, the oldest BTS member, was the first to join the Army and all seven members of the K-pop boy band plan to fulfil their military duties.
In July 2022, J-Hope of BTS dropped his first solo album, “Jack in the Box,” and performed at “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” an annual New Year’s Eve special show by ABC TV.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military for about two years.
Two years ago, Thai BTS fans were delighted when world-famous K-Pop group launched the Map of the Soul pop-up shop at EmQuartier in Bangkok.
Until then, Thai fans, or ARMY as they are known, had to look on while pop-ups shops were launched around the world.
