Intoxicated driver kills three siblings in Sisaket crash
A tragic accident involving a drink driver in a pickup truck and a motorcycle resulted in the death of three siblings in Sisaket province, Thailand. The driver, who was reportedly intoxicated, claimed to have no recollection of the crash that occurred yesterday, December 1.
The incident took place on the road in Khun Han district. Upon receiving a report of the accident around 12.30pm, Prachein Unkaew, an investigator from Khun Han Police Station, promptly informed his superiors and coordinated with the Sawangjit Sisaket Thammasathan Foundation to respond to the scene.
At the scene, a grey Toyota pickup truck was found crashed into a rubber tree on the roadside. The vehicle’s front was severely damaged, with parts scattered across the area. The driver, 50 year old Lampoo fled the scene in a local’s vehicle.
Nearby, a red-and-white Honda motorcycle lay in ruins. The bodies of 22 year old Patrarat and six year old Waraphon were discovered, while another sibling, seven year old Natthaphat was injured. Rescue personnel transported Natthaphat to Khun Han Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both the pickup truck and the motorcycle were travelling in the same direction.
As the motorcycle stopped to make a right turn, the pickup truck unexpectedly collided with it, causing the siblings to be thrown from the vehicle. Patrarat died instantly while Waraphon was critically injured and trapped beneath the truck.
Lampoo, the pickup truck driver, later admitted to drinking alcohol with friends before the accident, stating he could not remember how much he had consumed. He confessed to being heavily intoxicated at the time of the collision and was unable to recall the incident. Lampoo also suffered a fractured right shoulder from the crash.
Gone for snacks
The father of the deceased children, 34 year old Sangravee was overwhelmed with grief upon hearing the news. He disclosed that Patrarat was a second-year vocational student while Waraphon was in kindergarten, and Natthaphat was a first-grader. The siblings had gone out to purchase snacks before returning to assist him in the garden.
CCTV footage from a nearby shop captured the moments leading up to the tragic accident. The video shows the siblings leaving the store on their motorcycle, only to be struck by the speeding pickup truck moments later. The loud crash prompted nearby residents to rush to the scene in shock and horror.
Law enforcement officials tracked down Lampoo and conducted tests to measure his blood alcohol level, which registered at 127 milligrammes per cent. He also tested positive for drugs, with traces of methamphetamine detected in his system.
Consequently, charges have been filed against him for reckless driving causing death, driving under the influence of alcohol, and illegal drug use, reported KhaoSod.
