Heavy rainfall forecasted across 49 Thai provinces
Thai Meteorological Department expects nationwide downpours

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather forecast for today, June 23, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in 49 provinces across Thailand, with 70% of Bangkok expected to experience downpours. Residents are advised to prepare for potential flash floods, forest runoffs, and landslides.
Rainfall is predicted in various parts of the country, particularly in the eastern region, where very heavy rain is expected. This is attributed to a moderate southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, along with a monsoon trough across upper northern Thailand and upper Laos, extending to a low-pressure area over upper Vietnam.
Regarding marine conditions, moderate winds are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The Andaman Sea is forecast to have waves reaching up to two metres. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves could exceed two metres.
In the northern region, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in certain parts, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Lamphun, Lampang, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from a low of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius (°C) to a high of 31 to 34°C, with southwest winds blowing at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).
The northeastern region will also see thunderstorms in 70% of its area, with heavy rainfall in provinces like Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Buriram. Temperatures will vary from 22 to 25°C at their lowest to 33 to 34°C at their highest, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
The central region is expected to have thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. The temperature will range from 24 to 26°C to 32 to 34°C, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
Heavy rain, strong winds
In the eastern region, 70% of the area is predicted to face thunderstorms, with very heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27°C to 29 to 33°C, with southwest winds reaching 15 to 35 km/h. Waves in the sea will be one to two metres high, but areas with thunderstorms may see waves exceeding two metres.
The southern region’s eastern coast will have thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C to 31 to 33°C, with southwest winds at 15 to 35 km/h. The sea is forecast to have waves about one metre high, with waves reaching one to two metres offshore. In stormy areas, waves could exceed two metres.
On the southern region’s western coast, thunderstorms are expected in 80% of the area, with heavy rain in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C to 29 to 32°C. From Phuket upwards, there will be southwest winds at 20 to 35 km/h, with waves around two metres high. From Krabi downwards, southwest winds will be 15 to 35 km/h, with waves one to two metres high. In stormy areas, waves may exceed two metres.
Bangkok and its vicinity are predicted to experience thunderstorms covering 70% of the area, with some heavy rainfall. Temperatures will range from 26 to 28°C to 31 to 33°C, with southwest winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
