A woman and her three grandchildren narrowly escaped disaster when their two-storey wooden house in Ayutthaya collapsed after heavy rainfall this morning, February 18. Miraculously, they managed to crawl out safely—along with their pet dog.

The Ayutthaya branch of the Ruamkatanyu Foundation received an emergency call at 9.30am and rushed to the scene near Talad Plu Market in Village 6, Mueang district. Upon arrival, they found the house completely flattened, but no one was trapped beneath the wreckage.

The woman, 62 year old Samruay Meesomphol along with her three young grandchildren, suffered only minor bruises. Her husband, 75 year old La-iad Wongsanit, the house owner, was working at a nearby restaurant when the home collapsed. Rescue workers provided first aid, as their injuries were not serious.

Samruay recalled that the house had been creaking following heavy downpours early that morning. Moments before the collapse, she heard ominous cracking sounds from the wooden structure. Realising the danger, she crawled to her grandchildren’s room, carried one child, and guided the others to safety.

Meanwhile, La-iad heard the crash from his workplace and rushed outside—only to find his home reduced to rubble.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes. The house was built just 12 years ago.”

Officials are now investigating the structural integrity of similar homes in the area to prevent further incidents, reported The Nation.

In similar news, a two-storey wooden house in Bangkok collapsed, trapping its 64 year old owner under the debris. Neighbours, who had previously raised safety concerns, heard creaking sounds before the structure gave way.

Police Lieutenant Suchat Changtham of Wat Phraya Krai Police Station received a report of the collapse in Soi Charoen Krung 99, Intersection 10, Bang Kho Laem district.

Emergency services, including disaster response teams, Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers, and Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital rescue units, rushed to the scene. The house, covering approximately 40 square metres, had completely caved in, leaving the owner trapped beneath the roof tiles, crying for help.
