Fire at Buriram auto shop causes 100,000 baht damage
A fire incident occurred yesterday at a second-hand auto parts shop in Nong Hin, Pang Ku subdistrict, Prakhon Chai district, Buriram province. The blaze broke out yesterday, on February 4, after a man dismantling a car accidentally ignited the vehicle’s fuel tank.
The blaze completely destroyed the car and spread to a pile of spare parts. Police Lieutenant Colonel Udomsak Torphimai from the Prakhon Chai Police Station coordinated with local fire services to extinguish the fire, which took approximately 20 minutes to control.
Prasit Tangprakhon, a 45 year old car dismantler from Prakhon Chai, explained that he was attempting to remove a fuel tank, but the nuts were difficult to access.
Due to space constraints, he used a gas torch to cut the nuts.
Unexpectedly, a fuel line detached and caught fire, causing a rapid blaze. He managed to escape unharmed before the fire engulfed the entire vehicle.
Prasit admitted that he had never encountered such an incident before.
Sommart Pimwong, the 39 year old owner of the second-hand auto parts shop, remarked that typically, old vehicles have empty fuel tanks as the fuel evaporates over time.
He considered the incident a cautionary tale for those in the industry, emphasising the importance of safety and vigilance, reported KhaoSod.
Fortunately, Prasit escaped unharmed, and there were several people around to assist. The initial estimate of the damage is approximately 100,000 baht (US$2,970).
In similar news, a severe fire broke out at a major car repair shop in Mueang district, Trang province, affecting over 30 vehicles being serviced.
At least seven cars were destroyed, with damages exceeding 10 million baht, as firefighters worked for 90 minutes to control the blaze.
Nattapong Niamsom, Mayor of Nataluang subdistrict, mobilised fire engines and coordinated with local administrative organisations for additional support.
Over 10 fire engines from various departments, including the Trang Provincial Administrative Organisation, Trang Municipality, and local rescue units, were deployed to tackle the fire.
