“Top story in Taiwan. A 36 year old man from New Taipei City paid for sex with a Thai woman he met online at TWD$3,000 (3,200 baht) per hour. During the sexual activity, the Taiwanese man’s heart rate increased rapidly due to excitement.

He then fainted and later died in hospital. Local police searched for the Thai woman and discovered that she was a transwoman named Wu. The transwoman’s passport, however, clearly stated she was a Mr.

Despite the serious nature of the incident, many Thai netizens flooded the comment section with humour, suggesting that the Taiwanese man might have been shocked upon realising that the sex worker was a transwoman.

Others condemned those making light of the situation, stating that it was an insult to both the deceased and the transwoman. They urged the page to provide more details about the cause of death and believed that it was related to his health issues rather than the sex worker’s gender.

Some users pointed out that the Thai transwoman was working as a sex worker in the country, even though it was illegal under local laws.

This is not the first report involving Thai nationals working illegally as sex workers in Taiwan. In June of this year, Taiwanese police officers arrested eight Thai women and a Thai transwoman at a hotel in the Zhongshan district of Taipei City for operating an illegal prostitution ring.

In October 2023, another Thai female sex worker was arrested in Taiwan. Local police came across her online profile and sex service advertisement, so they posed as customers and tricked her into meeting at a hotel where she was subsequently arrested.
