Thai woman arrested in Taiwan for prostitution in Taiwan
Taiwanese authorities arrested a Thai woman for illegally engaging in prostitution while on a tourist visa in Taiwan. The woman openly confessed to her wrongdoing and attributed her actions to financial difficulties.
Police in the Banqiao district of Taiwan’s New Taipei City told local news agency ETtoday that officers stumbled upon an advertisement for a spa service on Facebook application. Upon further investigation, the advertisement turned out to be an ad for sexual services offered by a 20 year old Thai woman.
The ad included the woman’s pictures and video along with her personal information, including her nationality, age, height, weight, location and even her bra size.
The police officer contacted the Thai woman by posing as a customer and made an appointment with her at a hotel. The officer revealed his identity in this meeting and checked her visa before accompanying her to the police station.
According to ETtoday, the Thai woman is a student at a Thai university who entered Taiwan on a tourist visa. She claimed that her family could not afford her tuition fees, so she had to sell sex services to finance her education.
The woman revealed that she had eight clients in the last two days before her arrest. She earned 4,600 baht per client.
The woman remains in the custody of the Taiwanese authorities but no charges or punishment have been announced.
Just last month, police in Taipei arrested five Thai women for prostitution in an apartment in the Shi-men Ting district. The arrests were made after locals in the area reported that they had seen many men suspiciously entering the building.
Officers then raided the flat at around 3am and found five Thai women who admitted to turning the flat into a brothel. The officers did not reveal how long the brothel had been operating before the raid, nor did they reveal what punishment the women faced.
