Couple confesses to gruesome murder over debt collection

Police have apprehended a couple accused of murdering a young woman over a debt, dismembering her body, and burying the remains behind their home before fleeing to Chiang Mai. They confessed that resentment over debt collection and offensive remarks led to the crime.

Yesterday, March 22, at 1pm, Police Lieutenant Somphop Niamjamroen of Don Tum Police Station in Nakhon Pathom province was notified by the investigative team from the Nakhon Chai Si Police Station about the discovery of body parts of a missing woman behind a home.

At the scene behind the house, police discovered human remains, including a skull, bones, and some hair, identified as belonging to 22 year old Ann Piyawan.

Relatives had reported her missing to the Nakhon Chai Si police station on March 16. Another team later coordinated with divers from the Suksalanukroh Foundation to search the area near the Phaniang Taek Temple floodgate in Mueang Nakhon Pathom district, where the suspects claimed to have discarded other body parts.

The investigation began when the deceased’s husband reported her missing, noting she had last been seen with her sister. The sister stated that Ann left their home around 4pm on March 4, intending to collect a debt from 21 year old Phattharaphon, leaving her child in the sister’s care with the promise of returning soon.

During the 10 days Ann was missing, there was regular chat communication, but video calls were refused, and the conversations seemed suspiciously unlike Ann. Additionally, Phattharaphon and her husband, Narongchai, also disappeared, leading police to suspect their involvement in Ann’s disappearance.

Ann’s father claimed he dreamt of his daughter, who revealed she had been killed and buried by Narongchai behind the house.

Police investigation ultimately led to the arrest of Phattharaphon and Narongchai in Chiang Mai, where they had fled. Under questioning, they confessed to killing Ann, dismembering her body, burning the remains, and burying them behind their home.

The motive was anger over debt collection and offensive language. The couple is now being brought back for further questioning, reported KhaoSod.
