Children find headless body in Samut Sakhon canal
Children playing football near the riverbank made a startling discovery when they went to retrieve their ball yesterday, January 28. They found a floating body, missing its head and arms, in a canal in Om Noi, Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon province.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Atsadawut Eadkeaw, an investigation deputy at Krathum Baen police station, reported receiving the notification around 7.30pm. The body was found near a construction site for a riverbank protection dam, drawing the attention of many residents.
The body, heavily decomposed, was missing arms and a head, from the neck down to the lower legs, revealing mostly skeletal remains. Some flesh and internal organs were still attached but were in a fragile state.
Due to the severe decomposition, it was impossible to identify the gender of the body. Only a pair of shorts and some tattered clothing remnants remained, providing no clues to the person’s identity.
It is believed the person had been deceased for several months. After retrieving the body, it was sent to Siriraj Hospital’s forensic institute for further examination to determine the person’s identity.
According to a group of children who discovered the body, they were playing football at a village sports ground near the canal when the ball rolled off the field and landed on the riverbank. Upon retrieving it, they noticed something peculiar floating near a pontoon.
Initially unsure of what it was, they used a stick to investigate and realised it was a body. They informed the village adults, who confirmed it was indeed a human body, although only the lower torso was visible. The police were then notified, reported KhaoSod.
The police inquired among the villagers whether anyone had been reported missing in the past month or two, but no such reports were confirmed. This led to the assumption that the body might have floated from another location and been carried by the water current into the canal, becoming lodged near the pontoon until its discovery.
