Burned body in Oman may belong to missing Thai woman

Local police officers in Oman suspect that the burned body found on a mountain in the country may be that of a missing Thai woman who was allegedly tortured by her Bangladeshi boyfriend before her disappearance.
Friends of the missing woman, Athitiya “Mind” Wilachan, took to social media to search for her. Their online posts led Mind’s family to learn about her suspicious disappearance, prompting them to urge the government to assist in the search.
According to one of her friends, Na, she last saw Mind on November 24 last year. She encountered Mind and her Bangladeshi boyfriend using drugs in their room. Mind had wounds and bruises all over her body and appeared extremely thin.
Na revealed to the public that Mind had been physically abused by her boyfriend throughout their relationship. Mind even confided in friends that her boyfriend had previously killed three other women and that she feared she might be his next victim.
Na suspected that the Bangladeshi man forced Mind to use drugs to numb the pain when he abused her. He was recently arrested in a drug-related case but Mind was not present in the room at the time, which led her friends to start searching for her.
Mind’s family later sought help from the Paveena Foundation for Children and Women, which then passed the case on to Interpol officers in Thailand.

DNA test performed
In addition to the foundation’s support, a Thai woman living in Oman also helped in the search for Mind and provided updates on her Facebook account, Khadeeja MadamOman Alhashmi.
Khadeeja revealed that she spoke to all of Mind’s friends to gather as much information as possible about Mind and her boyfriend. She then shared this information with influential people in Muscat, where she lived, as well as in Salalah, where Mind lived.

Khadeeja later received information from a Bangladeshi national that Mind was physically abused to death and that her body was burned along with a sofa on a mountain in Salalah. She reported the matter to local police officers handling Mind’s case, leading to an immediate investigation.
According to Khadeeja, officers confirmed the discovery of a burned body on the mountain. They believe it may belong to Mind but a DNA investigation will be conducted to confirm their assumption. Police had not yet confirmed whether Mind’s Bangladeshi boyfriend was involved or not.
KhaoSod reported that Mind’s family is already aware of Khadeeja’s information. They have prepared themselves to face the truth and are now awaiting the medical certificate to confirm Mind’s identity.
