Pattaya ramped up enforcement of the odd-even parking system on South Pattaya Road to reduce traffic congestion and reclaim pedestrian walkways.

The new rules, effective February 3, prohibit parking on alternate days, odd and even dates from 11am to 11pm along the 850-meter stretch between the Communications Intersection (Pattaya Third Road) and the Wat Chaimongkol Intersection.

To ensure compliance, the city has deployed 12 officers per shift to patrol the designated area, strictly monitoring parking and enforcing regulations. Violators face fines and, in some cases, wheel clamping as penalties for illegal parking.

However, the lack of clear signage and language barriers have left some tourists and locals unaware of the new parking rules. A foreign visitor expressed frustration, stating that they did not see any English signage indicating the parking restrictions, leading to confusion.

The current signs may not be sufficiently visible or detailed enough for non-Thai speakers, contributing to the misunderstanding. Consequently, many motorists continue to park illegally without realising they are violating the rules.

To promote awareness and enhance compliance, officials are considering improving signage to make it more visible and multilingual, ensuring all visitors understand the regulations. In the meantime, wheel-locking devices and fines will continue to be used to deter illegal parking.

Visitors are encouraged to use alternative parking options, such as public parking lots, beachside zones, and park-and-ride services, to avoid fines and contribute to a more organised traffic system, reported Pattaya Mail.

In other news, Phuket’s once-idyllic Cherng Talay is now a gridlocked nightmare, with frustrated residents demanding urgent action as worsening traffic congestion grinds daily life to a halt.

Residents and local officials, including Cherng Talay Subdistrict Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) Chief Manoch Panchalad, are calling for immediate solutions to ease the never-ending traffic tailbacks plaguing the area.

“Every day, I see private cars clogging the streets, reckless drivers cutting across lanes, and long queues of vehicles blocking intersections. It’s a mess.”
