A 70 year old man experienced a severe shock and lost consciousness during a massage session under a tamarind tree in the Ban Dung district of Udon Thani province. Emergency responders transported him to Somdej Phra Yupparat Ban Dung Hospital, where he is currently under close medical supervision.
The incident occurred yesterday, February 10, at Suan Lak, near the Phu Sri Sutho Shrine. Witnesses reported the man, who is a resident of Non Simma village, suddenly became rigid, lost consciousness, and appeared pale.
Before emergency responders arrived, locals attempted to provide first aid to the man, who had been receiving a therapeutic massage under the tree.
The masseuse, Daeng, approximately 70 years old, expressed confusion over the incident, stating that she was only performing a simple neck, shoulder, and back massage. She explained that the man’s wife had informed her of his diabetes and hypertension.
Despite her years of experience, this was the first time she had encountered such an occurrence. The man had previously visited her for massages twice without any issues, finding improvement each time.
However, this third session resulted in an unexpected shock and loss of consciousness. Daeng was noticeably shaken by the event, packing her belongings and leaving immediately after the incident.
Witnessing the event, Pornthaksin Yenwatthana, a durian vendor, was the first to notice the man fainting. She and her husband rushed to assist upon hearing calls for help.
Upon arrival, they found the man unconscious and pale under the tamarind tree. Pornthaksin mentioned the man had been receiving a massage when he suddenly collapsed.
She noted that although the man had underlying health conditions, it was unclear if the massage contributed to the incident. Having witnessed similar news stories, she was relieved that medical help arrived swiftly.
Bo, the owner of the durian stall, confirmed that the man had come with his wife and child from Non Simma village specifically to receive a massage from Daeng. The masseuse routinely visits the Suan Lak market area with her mat and bag to offer therapeutic massages, reported KhaoSod.
Despite her extensive experience, Daeng was visibly distressed, stating that she had never encountered such an incident before, particularly with this man who had visited her twice without issue.
Police are expected to investigate whether the shock was related to the massage or the man’s pre-existing health conditions.
