Chiang Mai police arrest foreigner for selling psilocybin mushrooms
Chiang Mai police apprehended a 59 year old foreign national for illegally selling psilocybin mushrooms mixed with honey to other expatriates.
The arrest took place yesterday, January 22, following an operation led by Police Colonel Prachaya Thitsala, head of Mueang Chiang Mai district police station in Chiang Mai province.
The operation was executed under the direction of Police Lieutenant Colonel Kathawut Hongnueng, deputy superintendent of the Mueang Chiang Mai district police. The team, including Police Lieutenant Chuwapol Chaisan and Police Lieutenant Colonel Phan Phannongwa, joined forces with the narcotics suppression unit to inspect a retail shop located on Ratchawithi Road, in the Si Phum subdistrict of Mueang Chiang Mai.
During the investigation, police discovered 15 bottles of psilocybin mushrooms mixed with honey, weighing approximately 2,215 grammes. This led to the arrest of the suspect, whose shop had been operating unnamed.
The arrest resulted from intelligence gathered by police, indicating illegal activities at the shop. The foreign suspect, married to a Thai national, was reportedly selling the illicit psilocybin mixture to fellow foreigners, reported KhaoSod.
After confirming the presence of the narcotics, police charged the individual with possession of category five narcotics without permission, and he now faces legal proceedings.
In related news, police arrested a Thai vendor selling magic mushrooms in Chiang Mai following the death of a British man who purchased and consumed the drugs from her shop.
Officers from the Investigation Division of Provincial Police Region 5, in cooperation with the Provincial Public Health Office, raided a cannabis shop on Tha Pae Road in Chiang Mai’s Mueang District on December 24 last year. They arrested the female owner of the shop, identified only as Paul.
Paul was charged with the illegal sale of psilocybin mushrooms, commonly known as magic mushrooms, classified as a Category 5 drug under Thai law.
