Police hunt suspect in Nakhon Pathom gold shop robbery

Police in Nakhon Pathom are searching for a man who robbed a gold shop inside a shopping mall on Wednesday, March 11, stealing gold accessories worth more than 3 million baht.

The suspect, whose identity remains under investigation, targeted the gold shop on the first floor at about 7.30pm. He was seen in CCTV footage wearing a black and white long-sleeve plaid shirt, long black trousers, black leather shoes and a black motorcycle helmet, and carrying a waist bag.

Police said the man threatened three shop workers with a gun and ordered them to hand over a tray of gold accessories. The workers did not comply and reportedly hid under the counter.

The suspect then fired a shot upwards before climbing over the counter, grabbing gold items and putting them into a plastic bag. Before leaving, he fired three more shots upwards, police said.

Security camera footage showed the man leaving the mall car park on a grey and black Honda Wave motorcycle without a registration plate.

Officers from Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station told Thai Rath they had reviewed security camera footage along several main roads but had not yet identified the suspect or confirmed his escape route.

Police said they were able to collect fingerprints because the suspect was not wearing gloves during the gold theft. The fingerprint analysis has not yet been completed, but officers said they were confident the suspect would be arrested soon.

In a separate case in Bangkok, police said they spent nearly a month investigating before arresting a Thai man for stealing more than 10 million baht in gold and cash from a gold shop in a shopping mall in Soi Sukhumvit 50.

Police said the man was also wanted in connection with a gold shop robbery in Bangkok in 2013, and confirmed his DNA matched DNA collected in that earlier case. Officers clarified that the suspect used similar methods for committing the thefts in both cases, leading police to conduct the DNA profiling.
