Thai man caught sexually abusing boy in mall bathroom

Security guards at a shopping mall in the Thapha area of Bangkok caught a Thai man and handed him over to the police after he lured a young boy into a bathroom and sexually abused him.
Officers from Bukkhalo Police Station escorted the 56 year old suspect, Koson, from the shopping mall to the police station for questioning at 2.30pm on March 30. Koson reportedly sustained facial wounds and bruises after he was attacked by the victim’s parents during his arrest.
According to a report on Channel 7, Koson tricked a group of children into following him to a bathroom by promising them money to play a game. He then sexually assaulted one of the children.
CCTV footage showed Koson entering the bathroom with a young boy. Four other boys followed them into the bathroom and fled shortly after witnessing Koson’s indecent act.
The four boys reported the incident to their parents and the shopping mall security guards, who immediately arrested Koson upon his exit from the bathroom with the victim.

Koson cried throughout the interview and told police that he had no family and was homeless. He had been staying at a temple and had recently undergone surgery on both legs.
Koson admitted that he was attracted to young boys aged between 12 and 14. He would offer them snacks, game top-ups, and other gifts in exchange for sexual favours.

Police questioned Koson about the details of the sexual assault and what he had asked of the victims, but Koson refused to answer, claiming he had a headache.
Officers reviewed his criminal record and discovered that Koson had previously been arrested in another area for sexually abusing a young girl. He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in that case.

Koson has been charged under Section 319 of the Criminal Law: abduction of a minor under the age of 15 from their parents or guardians for an indecent purpose. The penalty for this offence is imprisonment for two to 10 years and a fine ranging from 40,000 to 200,000 baht.
Koson is currently detained at the Thon Buri Criminal Court, awaiting his next hearing.
