Police seize SIM box used for scams in Bangkok condo

Police operations led to the seizure of a Chinese-operated SIM box at a Bangkok condominium, used for financial scams.
The room’s registered owner was a Chinese national using a Thai nominee. This operation took place yesterday, February 26 at 11.30am, under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Surapol Prembutr, Commissioner of Region 1.
The team included Police Major General Chayanan Meesati, Deputy Commissioner of Region 1, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Worachat Saenkham, Chief of Investigation for Region 1, among other officials.
The search was conducted by the Region 1 Investigation Police, Immigration Police Division 1, and police from Tao Poon Police Station, all armed with a search warrant from the Criminal Court.
The condominium, located in the Bang Sue district of Bangkok, was found to contain three SIM boxes, each capable of housing 32 SIM cards, and a CCTV camera for monitoring activities.
Forensic police collected DNA and fingerprint evidence from the room to aid the investigation at Tao Poon Police Station.

This operation was prompted by a complaint from a victim in Mueang Udon Thani district, who fell prey to a call centre scam.
The victim was deceived into believing they were involved in a money laundering case and subsequently transferred 180,000 baht for verification.
Following the incident, Udon Thani police collaborated with Region 1 Investigators to trace the equipment to the Bangkok condo. The search warrant led to the seizure of the SIM boxes and other related equipment.
Further investigations revealed that the room was purchased by a Chinese individual using a Thai nominee, and the equipment had been installed for about three months to scam victims.
The confiscated items were sent to Tao Poon Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

Last month, police in Region 1 raided an apartment in Lat Phrao, uncovering eight sim box devices used for scam calls that defrauded victims of millions.
The apartment was rented by a foreign national. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved.
