Deadly crash in Bangkok’s Chatuchak leaves two women dead

A tragic accident occurred in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok early today, January 22, when a Mercedes-Benz CLS 220d collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two women. The incident was reported to the Phaholyothin Police Station at 5am, following which police and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation arrived at the scene for investigation.

The accident took place on a two-lane road near Sena Nikhom Soi 1, Intersection 28. The bodies of the two women were found in the middle of the road, both with visible injuries.

One of the women had a severed ankle. Neither of the victims, estimated between 40 and 45 years old, were carrying identification.

Approximately 80 metres from the victims, a white Mercedes-Benz CLS 220d with Bangkok registration was discovered. The front right side of the vehicle was heavily damaged, with the front bumper and headlight dislodged, the windshield cracked, and the bonnet crushed.

The car was positioned in the middle of the road, facing towards Ladprao-Wang Hin Road.

Nearby, a Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle, also with a Bangkok registration, lay on its side, with its rear wheel detached from the main body. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, identified as 29 year old Fuenglada from Phetchabun province, remained at the scene to provide a statement to the police.

Initial investigations revealed that the two women were riding the motorcycle out of Sena Nikhom Soi 1, Intersection 26, heading towards Ladprao-Wang Hin Road. The Mercedes-Benz approached from the opposite direction and collided forcefully with the motorcycle, propelling the victims to the mouth of Sena Nikhom Soi 1, Intersection 28. The car dragged the motorcycle over 80 metres.

Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area to determine the cause of the accident. The Mercedes-Benz driver has been taken to Phaholyothin Police Station for further questioning and alcohol testing as part of the legal process, reported KhaoSod.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital for autopsy, with arrangements being made to contact their families.
