Bangkok bus driver fined 2,000 baht after blind passenger falls (video)

The Department of Land Transport has fined a bus driver 2,000 baht after an incident where a blind passenger and their guide fell from a bus as they attempted to board through the rear door. The driver stated he was focusing on traffic to the right and did not notice passengers boarding.

The Department of Land Transport yesterday, March 17, clarified the details following the release of a video clip on the social media page อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้.

The footage showed a bus passenger falling while trying to board route 82, running between Phra Pradaeng and Bang Lamphu, with the license plate number 14-8405 Bangkok. The incident occurred on March 15 around 9am at the bus stop in front of Big C Bang Pakok.

On March 17 at 1pm, the Department of Land Transport summoned Wirat, the driver of the bus, to investigate the facts.

Wirat explained that upon reaching the bus stop, he picked up three to four passengers. While preparing to drive off, he checked traffic on the right and did not see two passengers arriving at the stop and attempting to board through the rear door.

As the bus moved about 3 to 4 metres away from the stop, he heard a commotion indicating someone had fallen from the bus. He stopped and offered to take the passengers to a doctor but they declined, saying they were fine. He then allowed them to board and continued to their destination.

Following a review, the Department of Land Transport determined that Wirat’s actions constituted negligent driving, violating the Land Transport Act of 1979.

Consequently, they imposed several measures: firstly, a 2,000 baht (US$60) fine for reckless driving under sections 111 and 161; secondly, a 30-day suspension of his driver’s licence; and thirdly, a mandatory three-hour safety training session focusing on public transport service awareness.

Wirat was also cautioned to exercise greater care in the future, with a warning that any recurrence could result in the revocation of his driving licence, reported KhaoSod.
