2 Vietnamese men arrested for thefts at love hotel, over 500 evidence seized
Police arrested two Vietnamese men at a love hotel in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok yesterday, December 18, following a spate of thefts in the area. Over 500 pieces of evidence were seized.
Officers from Chaiyaphruek Police Station received multiple complaints regarding thefts in the Bang Bua Thong, Bang Kruai, Bang Si Mueang, and Chaiyaphruek areas of the province. A covert investigation was launched into each case.
Police determined that the thefts were committed by two men who began their crime spree in the Chaiyaphruek neighbourhood before targeting other areas in the province.
The suspects reportedly broke into victims’ homes to steal valuables. In some cases, the thieves were able to break into safes and make off with significant amounts of valuables. Their most recent theft occurred at a car showroom.
Police tracked the suspects using security footage from the showroom and nearby locations, eventually spotting them exiting a taxi in the Bang Si Mueang area.
Officers continued their search until locating the two suspects at a love hotel in the Bang Rak Noi district of Nonthaburi province.
The suspects were identified as Vietnamese nationals, 34 year old Nguyen Huu Luc and 36 year old Do Van Hiep. The two had entered Thailand legally on tourist visas. One of the suspects was able to speak Thai to a limited extent.
A search of their hotel room uncovered more than 500 stolen items, including tools, mobile phones, electronic devices, valuable amulets, shoes, bags, clothing, cash, etc. The total value of the stolen items was not disclosed.
The suspects were taken to the police station for questioning with the assistance of an interpreter. Nguyen denied involvement in the crimes, claiming that his friend, Do, acted alone.
The pair admitted to entering Thailand on November 16 and said they turned to theft because they were unemployed and short of money.
The two Vietnamese thieves were charged with conspiring to commit theft at night, which carries a penalty of one to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of 20,000 to 100,000 baht.
