Officials brace for widespread impact from relentless weather

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued another warning for heavy rainfall across Thailand, urging residents to exercise caution due to potential flash floods and forest runoffs.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates heavy showers in parts of north Thailand, northeast Thailand, central Thailand, including Bangkok and its vicinity, east Thailand, and the west coast of south Thailand.

The monsoon from the southwest is currently affecting the Andaman Sea and the west of Thailand, while the southeast and south winds covering the lower northern region, lower northeastern region, central region, and eastern region are weakening.

In the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, the sea is mild, with waves reaching about 1 metre and less than 1 metre in the Gulf of Thailand. However, areas experiencing thunderstorms may see waves exceeding 2 metres. Mariners in these regions are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

In northern Thailand, thunderstorms are expected in 60% of the area, with heavy rain forecasted for Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C to 33 to 36°C, with southwesterly winds at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour.

Northeast Thailand will also experience thunderstorms in 60% of the area, including Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Amnat Charoen, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani. The temperature will be between 24 and 25°C and 33 and 35°C, with southeasterly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

Weather forecast

Central Thailand, including Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lopburi, and Saraburi, will see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with some areas experiencing heavy rain. The temperature will range from 26 to 27°C to 35 to 36°C, with southerly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In eastern Thailand, 60% of the area will experience thunderstorms, particularly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.

Temperatures will be between 25 and 26°C and 33 and 35°C, with southeasterly winds at 10 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves below 1 metre, but areas with thunderstorms will see waves exceeding 2 metres.

For the eastern coast of southern Thailand, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the area, mostly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.

Temperatures will be from 24 to 27°C to 33 to 35°C, with southeasterly winds at 10 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves below 1 metre, with thunderstorms elevating wave heights to over 2 metres.

The western coast of South Thailand will experience thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain anticipated in Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun provinces.

Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C to 33 to 35°C, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, but areas with thunderstorms may see waves over 2 metres, reported KhaoSod.

Bangkok and its vicinity will also experience thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with some places getting heavy rain. The temperature will be between 26 and 27°C and 33 and 36°C, with southerly winds at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.
