Thailand braces for heavy rain across 36 provinces

Risk of landslides and surging rivers rises amid relentless downpours

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for 36 provinces in Thailand to prepare for heavy rainfall, particularly in parts of the north and upper northeastern regions.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a decrease in rain across the country, though heavy rain remains in some areas. Residents are advised to stay alert for potential dangers from intense and accumulated rainfall.

The northern region will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with heavy rain anticipated in Lampang, Phrae, Nan, Tak, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures are expected to range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius at their lowest and from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius at their highest.

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms will cover 40% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani.

Temperatures in this region will range from a low of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to a high of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. The central region will also have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, predominantly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius to 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

The eastern region will see thunderstorms in 40% of the area, with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Minimum temperatures will be 24 to 28 degrees Celsius, and maximum temperatures will be 31 to 34 degrees Celsius. Sea waves are expected to reach heights of 1 to 2 metres and more than 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.

In the southeastern coast, thunderstorms will affect 20% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to 34 to 37 degrees Celsius. Sea waves will be approximately 1 metre high, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore, and over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas, reported KhaoSod.

The southwestern coast will experience thunderstorms in 20% of the area, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Satun. Temperatures will range from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius to 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. Sea waves will be 1 to 2 metres high, exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms, reported KhaoSod.

In Bangkok and its surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the region. Temperatures are predicted to range from a minimum of 27 to 28 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.
