Heavy rainfall warning issued for 38 provinces in Thailand
Rains show no sign of stopping

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning for heavy rainfall in 38 provinces, with 60% of Bangkok’s area expected to be affected. Residents are advised to be cautious of flash floods and forest runoffs on June 8.
An increase in rainfall is anticipated across Thailand, with some regions experiencing significant downpours, particularly in eastern and southwest areas. This may lead to sudden flooding and water runoffs, especially in foothill regions and low-lying areas. Farmers are urged to take precautions to safeguard their crops from potential damage.
The monsoon trough sweeping across the upper northeastern region, Laos, and Vietnam, towards a low-pressure area in the central South China Sea, along with the strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, central and southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, is contributing to the severe weather conditions.
The Andaman Sea is expected to have waves as high as 2 to 3 metres, with even higher swells in stormy areas, while the Gulf of Thailand’s waves may reach 1 to 2 metres, increasing during thunderstorms. Mariners in these areas should navigate cautiously and avoid stormy waters, while small boats in the Andaman Sea are advised to remain ashore.
The weather forecast for today, June 8, from 6am today to 6am tomorrow, predicts thunderstorms in 60% of the northern region, with heavy rain in some areas, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 37°C.
The northeastern region will experience similar conditions, particularly in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, and Mukdahan, with temperatures between 24°C and 36°C.
Weather forecast
The central region, including Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi, will also see thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 37°C.
Eastern areas like Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat could face very heavy rainfall, with sea waves reaching up to 2 metres and higher during thunderstorms.
In the south (east coast), provinces such as Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla will face similar weather conditions, while the southwest coast, including Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun, will experience thunderstorms in 80% of the area, with very heavy rainfall. Sea waves here may rise to 3 metres during storms.
Bangkok and its surrounding areas will see thunderstorms affecting 60% of the region, with temperatures between 26°C and 37°C, reported KhaoSod.
