Heavy rainfall alert issued for Thailand as storm chaos looms

Shifting weather systems trigger alerts for severe conditions nationwide

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across Thailand as weather systems shift, prompting warnings for residents to prepare for possible flooding.

The Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain across 58 provinces today, October 15, with Bangkok and surrounding areas expected to be hit especially hard. Around 70% of the capital is forecast to be affected.

The unsettled weather is being driven by a combination of easterly winds carrying moisture from the South China Sea over the northeast, east, central, and northern regions, along with a monsoon trough over the upper South and the southwest monsoon from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Officials are urging residents to be on alert for flash floods and runoff, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The public is advised to carry umbrellas and rain gear and to avoid outdoor activities during stormy periods.
