Motorcyclist dies in crash with truck on dark Bangkok road

A tragic accident occurred on Jaturathit Road in Din Daeng, Bangkok, when a 26 year old motorcyclist collided with the rear of a 10-wheel truck. The accident, which happened in the early hours of today, November 13, resulted in the motorcyclist’s death as he became trapped in the back of the vehicle.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jirapha Channara from the Din Daeng station received the report of the collision involving the motorcycle and the stationary truck at around 2am. The accident took place on a dimly lit three-lane section of Jaturathit Road in Makkasan, Ratchathewi district.

Officers, along with a forensic team from Ramathibodi Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.

The accident site was dark due to a lack of street lighting. The white motorcycle was found overturned and severely damaged on the rightmost lane of the road, which runs along the Makkasan Pond towards Ratchaprarop.

Approximately 50 metres away, a white Hino 10-wheel truck was parked, with the dead motorcyclist, identified as 26 year old Natthawut Boonnak, found trapped at the rear. The young man suffered severe head injuries and broken limbs.

The truck driver, 54 year old Teerawat Santhadram, recounted the events leading up to the accident. He explained that before the incident, he had been transporting mud from dredging operations to a disposal site along Jaturathit Road, reported KhaoSod.

Afterwards, he drove towards On Nut to return to the worksite. As he was making a turn into the rightmost lane, he suddenly heard a loud crash from the rear of his truck. Shocked, he slowed down and stopped the truck to inspect the situation. Upon discovering the trapped body, he immediately contacted the police, Teerawat said.

“I was startled when I heard the crash and, upon checking, found the body at the back of my truck. I called the police right away.”

Police have taken Teerawat in for further questioning to ascertain the cause of the accident and to proceed with the necessary legal steps.
