Man dies as pickup truck plunges into Pasak River after collision
A 38 year old man tragically lost his life after his pickup truck plunged into the Pasak River, following multiple collisions with a barrier. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments as efforts to rescue the driver proved unsuccessful.
At 7.30pm yesterday, December 23, police received a report of a pickup truck veering off course, crashing into a barrier at a U-turn under the Nakhon Luang Bridge, and subsequently falling into the Pasak River in Bang Rakam, Nakhon Luang, Ayutthaya. Responding to the incident, officers from the local police station coordinated with the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Association’s diving team to assist.
An eyewitness, who captured the event on video, described seeing a white Isuzu pickup truck, with four doors, idling before revving its engine loudly. The truck then rammed into the barrier, reversed, and hit it again, causing one barrier to fall and another to be knocked towards the riverbank.
The truck eventually careened into the river and slowly submerged. Despite the frantic calls for help from a nearby fishing boat, the rescue attempt was too late as the vehicle disappeared beneath the water with no signs of anyone exiting. This distressing scene was recorded by the bystander.
Divers were deployed to the scene and descended approximately 4 metres into the depths of the river. After prying open the vehicle’s door, they discovered the body of 38 year old Anon, in the driver’s seat. Anon was a resident of Buriram province.
Pickup accident
Following the initial dive, the team returned with a crane sling to extract the submerged pickup truck. Upon examination, the vehicle exhibited significant damage to its front end, with the bumper detached, although the windows remained intact.
Kritsada Suktaeng, a diver from the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Association, noted that the truck had settled on the riverbed, doors unlocked, and windows undamaged, which allowed them to access the driver’s side and retrieve the body.
Police have now contacted the deceased’s family. It was revealed that before the accident, Anon had visited relatives in Song Phi Nong district, Suphan Buri, and was reportedly on his way back to his wife and child in Chanthaburi. Relatives are currently en route to meet with police for further investigation, reported KhaoSod.
Efforts are underway to obtain CCTV footage from the area surrounding the incident site. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science under the Ministry of Justice for an autopsy to determine the cause of the accident.
