Five-car crash on Nonthaburi bridge leaves three injured
Five vehicles collided on a bridge in Nonthaburi, resulting in three injuries. The incident occurred in the early hours of today, October 11, on Rama 4 Bridge, Chaiyaphruek Road, inbound to Bang Tanai subdistrict, Pak Kret district. Local police officers were alerted to the multi-vehicle crash and promptly arrived at the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police discovered 22 year old Hasanan, injured but still inside his white Mitsubishi car with a cut on his lip and chest pain. Nearby, a white Honda City was severely damaged at the front, with bloodstains on the airbags and seats, indicating the driver had been injured and taken to the hospital earlier.
Approximately 50 metres away, a grey-black BMW 330E was found overturned, with its wheels pointed skyward. The driver of this vehicle had also been transported to the hospital before the police arrived. Additionally, a 10-wheel Isuzu truck had sustained significant damage to its rear axle, rendering it immobile and causing it to crash into the roadside barrier.
At the scene, another vehicle, a Honda Civic, was identified as having contributed to the collision by failing to brake in time and adding to the overall damage. In total, five vehicles were affected in the crash.
Surveillance footage from 1.41am captured the moments leading up to the incident, showing the 10-wheel truck ascending the bridge in the left lane, followed by a pickup truck and a sedan in the middle lane, moving slowly.
As the vehicles approached the bridge, two sedans accelerated significantly. Anupong, a 25 year old driver who witnessed the event, reported that he was driving in the middle lane with his friend Hasanan following at a safe distance.
Cars collision
As Anupong attempted to overtake the 10-wheel truck, he noticed two rapidly approaching cars in his rear-view mirror, seemingly racing each other. Despite the right lane being clear, the white Honda attempted to overtake on the left but failed due to insufficient space, resulting in a collision with the truck’s rear.
Anupong noted that he did not see what caused the black BMW to overturn but noticed it was already flipped as he passed by. Anan, the 55 year old truck driver, recounted feeling a strong impact from behind while ascending the bridge in the left lane.
After the crash, he saw several vehicles stopped and identified the white car as the one that had hit his truck from behind. He did not observe the black BMW colliding with any object, reported KhaoSod.
Police officers documented the scene and interviewed witnesses, including the truck driver. Further questioning of the drivers of the other two cars involved will take place once their medical conditions improve.
