Veterinary scientist turned political spokesperson finds success in new role
A 64 year old veterinary scientist turned political spokesperson is thriving in his new role leveraging his years of experience in sales and marketing to effectively communicate the government’s message. Having transitioned from working in pet companies to politics, Chai Wacharonke’s ability to simplify complex issues has proven to be a critical asset.
“When they wanted to convey important messages to the public, they often asked me to do the job. I know how to explain complicated issues in a way that is easy to understand.”
He attributes this ability to his background in sales, where he often had to present products and convey important messages to diverse audiences.
Chai’s political journey began when he joined the Pheu Thai Party on June 7 of the previous year, after being drawn to the party’s strong work ethic and sincerity. His extensive background in the agricultural sector proved valuable, leading to his appointment to the agricultural policy committee.
“I am keen on politics. In the past, I liked the style and approach of the Thai Rak Thai Party.
“Thai Rak Thai grasped social problems and rolled out practical policies that delivered results for people.”
Political rise
The Thai Rak Thai Party, founded by ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, was later reborn as the People Power Party and then reincarnated as the Pheu Thai Party.
Chai’s rise in the political scene caught the attention of Prommin Lertsuridej, secretary-general of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, leading to his appointment as the government spokesperson. With this role, he has had to adapt to the demands of accompanying the prime minister on trips, both home and abroad, and managing a fast-paced lifestyle.
Chai reported on the prime minister’s busy working schedule.
“He walks very fast and makes quick decisions with a sharp mind. He is a leader who prioritises achieving results.”
In a world dominated by social media and constant criticism, Chai emphasises the importance of accurate communication over retaliation. His primary focus is on clarifying issues and informing the public about the government’s work rather than engaging in personal disputes, reported Bangkok Post.
“But if a serious issue arises, it needs to be clarified quickly to prevent any misunderstanding and problems that might ensue.”
Regarding Thailand’s position in the face of rising geopolitical risks, Chai stated that the 61 year old Thai prime minister emphasises maintaining a balance in relations with global powers. The government’s approach is to avoid taking sides in conflicts while seeking cooperation with other countries to boost mutual benefits.
