Devastating road accident claims life in Chon Buri: Drunk driving suspected

A devastating road accident in Chon Buri province claimed the life of a factory worker and severely injured her colleague, riding on a motorbike. The incident occurred when a pickup truck veered off the road and collided with the two-wheeler. The driver of the pickup truck, who appeared intoxicated, also suffered injuries.

Around 5am today, Deputy Inspector Sravut Sribundit of Ban Bueng Police Station was notified of the crash involving a pickup truck and a motorbike on Nong Chak Road, near the Nern Mok intersection. On arrival at the accident scene, police and medics found a Nissan pickup truck with Sukhothai licence plates crashed into an electricity pole. One of the bike riders, a female factory worker named Wiphada, was found unconscious. Despite the medics’ efforts to resuscitate her, she succumbed to her severe injuries. The other rider, 20 years old Chutima, suffered a leg injury and was in a state of shock.

She was immediately rushed to Ban Bueng Hospital. The pickup driver, identified as 31 year old Prames, had a head injury and seemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

In his statement, Prames claimed that he was driving home from Nern Mok when he collided with the motorbike and the electricity pole. He insisted that he hadn’t been drinking and was well acquainted with the road.

Jiraporn, a witness, reported that she saw the pickup truck descending a hill and veering off the road, crossing the median strip and colliding with the motorbike. The impact was so severe that one of the riders was thrown into the grassy area by the roadside.

On hearing about the accident, Wiphada’s father rushed to the scene and was devastated to find his daughter had died. He revealed that Wiphada had been working overtime hoping to save extra money for the new year. He appealed to the pickup driver, urging people not to drive if they had been drinking to avoid causing grief and loss to others.

The police have recorded the scene of the accident for evidence and are questioning the pickup driver. They will also conduct a breathalyser test to determine his alcohol level. Legal proceedings will follow based on the investigation outcomes, reported by KhaoSad.
