A deadly clash between Thai rangers and suspected drug traffickers broke out late at night on November 11, at Mae Fah Luang, Chiang Rai. The conflict ended with one trafficker lifeless and the seizure of 200,000 amphetamine pills, as confirmed by officials from the Pha Muang Army.

The Pha Muang Army officials explained that their investigative team had received a tip-off about impending drug smuggling from a neighbouring country into Thai territory, prompting the deployment of local rangers to survey the reported area.

As the clock struck 9pm on November 11, the patrolling rangers spotted a group of about four to five individuals carrying unidentified luggage and firearms. The rangers, following proper protocol, attempted to inspect the suspicious group. However, this action sparked off a tense firefight that lasted an intense five minutes.

Following the gunfight, the rangers secured the area and waited for daylight. When dawn broke, they discovered a body, presumed to be one of the traffickers and two abandoned bags filled to the brim with over 200,000 amphetamine pills, reported The Pattaya News.

The investigative officers from Mae Fah Luang seized the disputed property and have since vowed to apprehend the remaining involved individuals, who managed to escape during the melee. The officers will continue their investigation and ensure that all suspects will face the full force of the law.
