Teenage girl assaulted in Nonthaburi as punishment, captured on video
A group of teenagers in Nonthaburi brutally assaulted a 16 year old girl on the street, claiming it was a form of punishment. Police are investigating the incident, which was caught on video and widely shared on social media.
Kan Jompalang, along with the victim and her guardians, visited Rattanathibet Police Station in Nonthaburi to meet with Police Colonel Pisut Chantarasuwan and expedite the case. The 16 year old girl was attacked by her peers, who slapped, kicked, and punched her until she begged them to stop.
The assault occurred Tuesday, August 20, in front of the assailants’ house in Soi Prachachuen Nonthaburi 5, Bang Khen, Nonthaburi. Following the incident, the victim’s guardians took her to a hospital in Pathum Thani for a medical examination before filing a police report against the attackers yesterday. The violent attack was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.
Kan Jompalang stated that he was contacted by the victim’s family and decided to follow up at the police station. He described the video as showing the girl being viciously attacked by her peers. The victim was lured out of her home under false pretences and attacked in front of a cheering crowd.
After the assault, the attackers threatened the girl, warning her not to tell anyone or face further violence. The family is deeply concerned for her safety, as the attackers know her home address, having previously picked her up on a motorcycle.
Kan has coordinated with the Pathum Thani Police Station to ensure the girl’s safety and with Rattanathibet Police Station to ensure justice in the case. He has also reached out to the Director-General of the Department of Children and Youth, as well as the Attorney-General for Rights Protection, to expedite the investigation process, which must be conducted in the presence of multidisciplinary professionals due to the involvement of minors.
Teenage assault
Pol. Col. Pisut confirmed that the police had received the complaint and questioned the victim’s mother as the complainant. The victim, being 16 years old, will also need to provide her statement in the presence of professionals.
The current appointment for her questioning is scheduled for September 12, but efforts are being made to expedite this process. The victim’s injuries were treated at a hospital in Pathum Thani, and the medical report will be used to press charges against the attackers.
Officials from the Nonthaburi Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office noted that since the victim resides in Pathum Thani, they will coordinate with their counterparts there to provide psychological support.
The trauma from the assault could potentially lead to depression, and the victim’s mental health will need careful attention. Additionally, they plan to implement measures to prevent the victim from leaving her home at night, ensuring her guardians closely monitor her.
Following the release of the video on social media, Deputy Superintendent Phasakorn Chaitaveewong of Rattanathibet Police Station ordered an investigative team to track down the attackers. The investigation identified three female teenagers involved in the assault: 18 year old Mint, (wearing a blue shirt), 17 year old First, (in black pyjamas), and 16 year old Jan, (in a black shirt), reported KhaoSod.
The attackers claimed they assaulted the victim because she often shared group matters with outsiders, causing misunderstandings and conflicts. The victim had only been part of the group for about three months.
