Suspected arsonist targets motorcycle in Nakhon Ratchasima

A suspected arsonist set fire to a motorcycle parked at a house, endangering five residents. Fortunately, security cameras captured the act.
The incident, believed to stem from a misunderstanding last year, occurred late at night on March 3 in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Police have vowed to pursue legal action.
Police Lieutenant Pasit Jitprasert from Khon Buri Police Station, yesterday, March 4, visited the site to gather evidence and interview the victims.
The unknown male suspect was recorded on CCTV wearing a raincoat-like outfit and helmet, pouring petrol onto the motorcycle seat before igniting it. The motorcycle was parked under the house’s eaves in Ban Mai subdistrict, Khon Buri district.
The household of 46 year old Pichit, his wife, his 66 year old mother, and his daughters, aged 16 and seven, were inside the small 24-square-metre wooden house at the time. Fortunately, the family was awake and heard their dog barking, allowing them to extinguish the flames quickly.
This prompt action prevented the fire from reaching a nearby gas tank, which could have led to a catastrophic situation.
Pichit recounted how he was watching television at around 11pm when the dog’s barking alerted him. He checked the CCTV footage and saw the suspect committing the act.
The close proximity of the gas tank and the wooden house posed significant fire hazards. He expressed concerns about the potential danger to his family, especially his elderly mother, who has mobility issues, reported KhaoSod.
While Pichit claims to have no ongoing disputes, he suspects the perpetrator might be someone with whom he had a misunderstanding last year. He urges the police to thoroughly investigate and apprehend the suspect, highlighting the severe risk to his family’s safety had they been asleep during the attack.
