Senior monk in scandal after photos with woman surface

A controversial incident involving a senior monk has emerged in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Ron Phibun district. Photos recently surfaced allegedly showing a monk and a woman both naked in a bathroom, with the woman bathing the monk.

The monk is identified as a senior ecclesiastical official and a subdistrict chief monk. The incident has prompted locals to demand accountability.

Residents in the area secretly captured the images, fearing personal harm if their identities were revealed. They have reportedly monitored the monk’s alleged misconduct for some time, attempting to gather evidence with the help of locals. The images, captured within the temple’s bathroom, have been shared as evidence of misconduct.

Amidst discussions on the incident, opinions emerged that the problem lies not with religion itself but with certain individuals exploiting it.

Critics argue that while monkhood requires strict adherence to religious discipline, some people neglect these principles, degrading the faith. The incident has led to calls for vigilance and the removal of such individuals from religious institutions.

After the monk learnt of the photographs, he reportedly left the temple. Residents, disapproving of his actions, have expressed a desire for him not to return as abbot.

Phra Khru Siriwannaporn, the abbot of Thepnomchuead Temple and district monk chief of Ron Phibun, has acknowledged the situation. Disciplinary procedures have been initiated, with reports submitted to the provincial ecclesiastical official in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Initial investigations are focused on determining if any temple property is missing, which could lead to legal action. Currently, the monk remains unreachable, and residents have resolved to appoint a new monk to replace him, assuring that he will not return to the temple, reported KhaoSod.
