Security camera dispute leads to shooting in Phetchabun

A dispute over security cameras led to a shooting incident in Phetchabun province, where a man shot his neighbour and a police officer, leaving both injured. Despite negotiations, the suspect remains at large.
Yesterday, April 9, the communication centre of Chon Daen Police Station in Phetchabun received a report of a shooting incident in Ban Khlong Kon Huad, Mueang Chon Daen.
The suspect, identified as 43 year old Manop, allegedly shot his neighbour, Viroj, following a disagreement over a security camera that was capturing footage inside Manop’s property. Manop then fled into a nearby forest.
Police Colonel Chaiya Nukhumsap, chief of Chon Daen Police Station, along with Police Major Kasidet Wacharamonchai, head of investigations, and a team of officers, initiated a manhunt for Manop. By approximately 9.20am, as Pol. Maj. Kasidet led a team to apprehend Manop, the suspect reportedly opened fire, injuring Pol. Maj. Kasidet in the right leg.
Both injured men, Viroj and Pol. Maj. Kasidet, were transported by rescue volunteers to Chon Daen Hospital and subsequently transferred to Phetchabun Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, additional police forces were called in to surround the area and continue the search for Manop, who remained hidden in the forest.
Police attempted to negotiate Manop’s surrender but these efforts proved unsuccessful. Police officers relied on the suspect’s family members, including his mother, sister, daughter, and son, to help persuade him to surrender and lay down his weapon.
However, their efforts have been unsuccessful. The standoff has dragged on for over three hours. Police fired tear gas in an attempt to pressure the suspect into surrendering before the situation escalates further, reported Dailynews.
The altercation began when Manop objected to Viroj installing a security camera that overlooked Manop’s property, leading to a heated argument and subsequent shooting. The police, upon receiving the report, moved to arrest Manop but were met with resistance, resulting in further injuries, reported KhaoSod.
