A school janitor in Kanchanaburi province has turned himself in to the police after being accused of sexually assaulting four female students.

The incidents occurred on Children’s Day, and the janitor, identified as 50 year old Theerachai or Thong, admitted to the crime, claiming it was his first time and blaming his actions on alcohol consumption.

Parents of the students from a primary school in Saen To subdistrict, Tha Maka district, became aware of the inappropriate behaviour, prompting them to file a complaint with Tha Maka Police Station. The police investigation revealed that Thong had fled and was hiding in Kamphaeng Saen district, Nakhon Pathom province. However, he later coordinated with the police to surrender.

Yesterday, January 27, Theerachai presented himself to the police. He confessed to the assaults, stating that it was a momentary lapse driven by alcohol.

After the incident on January 17, the school was informed and arranged for him to sign an acknowledgement before terminating his employment. Theerachai subsequently worked in construction in Kamphaeng Saen while keeping abreast of developments.

When he was informed last week that charges had been filed, he decided to surrender, acknowledging his wrongdoings and expressing that he never intended to be a fugitive. He believed that fleeing would mean living in hiding for 20 years and potentially dying without his family knowing.

At the scene of the crime, which is the residence behind the school where Theerachai lived and worked, police found his belongings, including clothes and tools. Meanwhile, the school facilitated the transportation of the victims’ relatives to provide statements to a multidisciplinary team.

The school principal indicated that further information would be provided after the interviews at Tha Maka Police Station, reported KhaoSod.

The police have charged Thong with taking a child under 15 from their guardian without justification and committing an indecent act on a child under 13, regardless of consent. The charges specify that the acts involved the use of objects or other body parts, excluding the genitalia or anus of the child.
