Police seize 5 million meth pills after Kamphaeng Phet chase

A dramatic police chase unfolded yesterday when a pickup truck driver attempted to evade a checkpoint in Mueang district, Kamphaeng Phet province. The vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler, leading to the discovery of five million methamphetamine pills.
At approximately 8pm, yesterday, March 3, Police Major General Opas Kongmueang, Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Police commander, and Police Colonel Kornwit Onthong, Kamphaeng Phet Police Station superintendent, were informed of a Ford Ranger Wildtrack pickup truck dodging a checkpoint at a red light in Nong Pling subdistrict.
The vehicle subsequently crashed into an 18-wheeler, resulting in the arrest of the driver and the uncovering of a significant drug haul.
The incident occurred near the U-turn in front of the Kamphaeng Phet shooting range in Khlong Mae Lai subdistrict.
The white Ford pickup, bearing fake licence plates from Sukhothai and other provinces, was found with severe front-end damage.
The driver, 36 year old Krisada from Chiang Mai, sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene under police custody.

Approximately 50 metres from the pickup, a white Hino trailer truck was parked on the roadside. The truck, driven by 53 year old Sanae from Tha Khun Ram subdistrict, Mueang district, had its rear axle damaged.
Sanae recounted that his truck was en route to deliver fertiliser when the pickup suddenly collided with his vehicle.
Police, alongside forensic experts, conducted a thorough inspection of the pickup, revealing it was packed with methamphetamine pills.
Evidence was meticulously collected before the vehicle was transported to the Kamphaeng Phet Police Station for inventory and seizure.
The drugs, marked with the number 999, five stars, and a Che Guevara image, were distributed across various locations within the pickup: eight sacks in the truck bed, 10 behind the driver’s seat, and two beside it. Officers confirmed a total of five million pills were concealed.
The police operation was triggered when officers set up a checkpoint at a local intersection. The suspect halted his vehicle before reaching the checkpoint and abruptly reversed direction.
Officers pursued the vehicle as it sped through multiple intersections and wrong-way lanes, eventually reaching the U-turn where it collided with the trailer truck, reported KhaoSod.
Currently, the suspect has provided limited information, only stating that the drugs were transported from northern Thailand through Kamphaeng Phet to central provinces. The suspect reportedly changed licence plates to avoid detection during the journey.
