Police apprehended a man selling illegal firearms after he attempted to dispose of the weapon in a canal. The 36 year old suspect confessed to the crime, citing financial difficulties as his motive for selling the gun.

Yesterday, August 14, several high-ranking officers, including Police Lieutenant General Thiti Saengsawang and Police Major General Noppasil Phoonsawas, led the operation to arrest Samrit. The officers from the Crime Suppression Division had received information about Samrit’s activities and used an undercover agent to arrange a meeting with him.

Yesterday, Samrit arrived at the agreed location, unaware that he was walking into a police trap. Upon realising the presence of law enforcement, he threw a .380 calibre firearm and six rounds of ammunition into a nearby canal. However, the police managed to recover the weapon and ammunition from the water.

Samrit was charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition without permission and carrying them in public without authorisation. He admitted to the charges, explaining that he had purchased the blank-firing gun, which could be modified to shoot real bullets, through an online platform. He intended to sell the firearm for 15,000 baht (US$430) due to his inability to pay his household expenses, reported KhaoSod.

“I did it because I had no money to pay for the house.”

The police handed over Samrit and the recovered firearm to the Bueng Kum Police Station for further legal proceedings.

In related news, Thalang Police in Phuket apprehended a man in Srisoonthorn for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The arrest took place on May 15 evening after law enforcement received a tip-off regarding suspicious activities at an unregistered house.

Officers arrived at the residence at 8pm, where they found Amarin Khanitthanam standing near the open front door. After identifying themselves, the police questioned him, who admitted to possessing firearms and ammunition.
