Mae Sot gold shop robbed by delivery rider in daring heist

A gold shop in Mae Sot district, Tak province, was robbed by a man disguised as a delivery rider yesterday, March 2.
The robber brandished a firearm and swiftly escaped with approximately 102 baht of gold, valued at about 4.7 million baht (US$137,175), in under a minute.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Sarayut Khongthong, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) of Mae Sot Police Station, received the report of the robbery at Orasa Gold Shop’s fifth branch located in Lotus shopping mall.
Upon inspection, it was confirmed that the thief had taken gold jewellery from display trays, including a tray with 10 baht of gold and two trays with 2 baht each.
Mae Sot Police Station’s investigative team is working diligently to identify the suspect, who was captured on CCTV.
The footage reveals the suspect as a slim male, about 165 centimetres tall, wearing a full-face black helmet and a green rider’s jacket.

He also wore a green camouflage-patterned inner shirt, black skinny jeans, black shoes with white laces, and carried a large black backpack.
The thief arrived alone on a motorcycle, parking in the designated area near the entrance of the mall where the gold shop is located.
Inside the shop, the suspect threatened employees and customers with an unidentified handgun, causing panic and screams.
The staff and customers fled the scene, allowing the robber to collect approximately 102 baht of gold into his backpack before fleeing on the Mae Sot-Tak road. The exact escape route is unknown, reported KhaoSod.
Police have launched a manhunt, distributing information to track down the suspect. They have set up checkpoints along the district’s border with Myanmar to prevent any cross-border escape. As of now, the suspect remains at large.
