High-speed police chase ends with crash and drug arrests
A high-speed chase spanning more than 10 kilometres ended dramatically when police apprehended a couple fleeing in a white Toyota sedan. The pursuit concluded after the vehicle crashed into a fence and wall, leading to the arrest of the driver and passenger and the discovery of drugs.
At approximately 8.30pm yesterday, October 7, Police Lieutenant Prajak Chumyen and his team from Ang Thong Police Station began pursuing a white Toyota car with registration number กต 985 Ang Thong. The driver had attempted to evade a routine check near the Bang Kaew water gate in Baan It subdistrict, Mueang district, Ang Thong province.
The car sped away towards Asia Road before turning onto the Ang Thong bypass, heading towards Route 309, and eventually veering back into a village where it crashed.
The vehicle sustained significant damage, particularly to the front, and the left rear tyre burst. Officers had to smash the rear windows on both sides to extract the occupants. The driver, identified as 42 year old John, and a female passenger, 27 year old Kik, were found in possession of one methamphetamine pill and traces of crushed methamphetamine scattered inside the car.
Kik stated that she had met John on Facebook just three days prior. She confessed to using methamphetamine the day before and explained that John had picked her up from the hospital where she was visiting her five-month-old son. Upon encountering the police checkpoint, John panicked and decided to flee.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital for medical attention before being detained.
Lt. Prajak revealed that the police had initially spotted the suspicious car parked with a motorcycle in Talad Kluad subdistrict. When officers signalled for a search, the car sped off, prompting the chase. After the car lost control and crashed, the driver refused to open the doors, necessitating the breaking of the windows to apprehend them, reported KhaoSod.
Both John and Kik face charges of drug possession and obstructing police duties. They have been taken for drug testing and further investigation to expand the case as per legal procedures.
