English-speaking counselling/therapy services in Bangkok

According to the WHO, Thailand has the highest suicide rate in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, mental health care and resources are severely limited due to the long-standing stigma against mental health conditions. According to a study, mental illnesses are often viewed as aggressive or a weakness of character in Asian countries. While visiting a doctor for a broken leg is normal, seeking help for mental health issues is considered a personal weakness.
In Thailand, medication is often prescribed by the psychiatrist to manage symptoms, but it rarely addresses the root causes of emotional distress. One of the most effective ways to truly cope with mental health challenges is through counselling or talk therapy.
Is mental healthcare a necessity?
Yes, absolutely. Mental health conditions affect how a person thinks, feels, and acts. If left untreated, they can gradually impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life. One of the most common and proven treatments for mental health challenges is counselling, also known as talk therapy or psychotherapy. Speaking to a certified counsellor can help you navigate difficult life situations, offering tools, coping strategies, and deeper insight into your mental well-being.
Just as we take care of our physical health, it is essential to care for our mental health too. However, with mental health services still limited in Thailand, especially for English speakers, finding accessible support can be difficult. To help you, we’ve compiled a list of mental health services in Bangkok offering English-speaking counselling and therapy.

Seeking professional help can be daunting, especially in a society where mental health issues are heavily stigmatized. What’s important to know is that mental health is as important as physical health. Therapy is for everyone; seeing a counsellor is helpful whether you’re feeling stressed, stuck or inadequate. It is essentially self-care.
If you are in crisis, please contact The Samaritans of Thailand via this number +66 21136789 (Press 2).
