‘Smart helmets’ for Chinese epidemic prevention officers
As China shows signs of recovering from its initial Coronavirus outbreak, epidemic prevention and control officers (yeah that’s a thing now) have been equipped with futuristic “smart helmets” that can detect potential patients without officers needing to get too close. It’s a new AI approach to tracking and prevention.
The smart helmet is a product developed by Kuang-chi whose company motto “The Future is Now” aims to modernise epidemic prevention. The helmets are now being used in major cities including Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen.
These futuristic helmets are fitted with AR glass and an infrared camera that allows an officer to detect body temperatures within crowds up tp 5 metres away. Along with temperature assessments, it can also perform facial recognition.
While Thailand found a way to bring humour to the situation by dressing in superhero costumes to clean the city, China is rapidly stepping up a tech approach to tracking.
