French tourist busted in Patong for reckless riding

A thrill-seeking Frenchman landed himself in trouble after his reckless antics on Patong’s streets caught the attention of Thailand’s national immigration chief.

Identified as 23 year old Ali, the tourist was arrested after CCTV footage revealed him tearing through red lights, revving up noise complaints, and riding without a helmet.

The chaotic joyride didn’t go unnoticed. National Immigration Bureau Chief Police Lieutenant General Phanumas Boonnalak personally ordered Phuket Immigration to hunt down the rule-breaking rider.

Officers quickly traced the suspect using CCTV and traffic light camera footage, eventually locating him at a hotel on Phra Mettha Road in Patong.

The exact date and time of the arrest were not disclosed but Ali was promptly detained and handed over to Patong Police Station for further investigation.

Officers confirmed that he has been charged with reckless driving and violating local traffic laws. He was fined for his offences and reportedly offered an apology, vowing not to repeat his behaviour.

A Phuket Immigration officer didn’t hold back in his response.

“Phuket Immigration aims to stop illegal behaviour by foreigners and is committed to keeping everyone safe, both locals and tourists, to build trust in Phuket as a safe place to visit.”

The department made it clear that tourists who break the law will face consequences. With Phuket welcoming thousands of foreign visitors every day, immigration officers are doubling down on efforts to crack down on those who ignore local rules, reported The Phuket News.

This latest incident serves as a warning to visitors that while Phuket may be a party paradise, laws on the road, and off it, still apply.

Immigration officials emphasised their commitment to maintaining order and upholding Phuket’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination.

In similar news, a BMW driver went viral after dashcam footage showed him aggressively ramming a pickup on Bangkok’s Outer Ring Road in Pathum Thani. Despite insisting both parties were at fault, online users strongly blamed the 28 year old driver, who was seen repeatedly swerving before forcing the pickup into a barrier.
