Body of foreign tourist found on Kata Beach, Phuket

A grim discovery cast a shadow over Kata Beach in Phuket yesterday, as the lifeless body of a female foreign tourist, believed to be in her 50s, was found face down in the sand.
The solo traveller’s body was unearthed near the Karon subdistrict municipal office yesterday, March 5, leaving officials stumped and scrambling for answers. With the cause of death still shrouded in mystery, polide have fast-tracked an autopsy to uncover the truth behind this tragic demise, reported KhaoSod.
At 1.20pm, a vigilant lifeguard’s alert reached the ears of Police Colonel Sunya Suksawat from Karon Police Station.
Wasting no time, he dispatched Police Lieutenant Colonel Koondej Na Nongkhai alongside officers from the Phuket Tourist Police and the Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation to the sobering scene.
A crowd of tourists had gathered around the area where the woman was found lying on a towel in the sand, wearing a swimsuit. Red rashes were visible on her back and legs.

A preliminary examination of the body showed no signs of struggle or assault. Police coordinated with forensic experts from Vachira Phuket Hospital to conduct an initial investigation before transporting the body for a detailed examination at the hospital.
Sarawut Sombun, a lifeguard with the Karon subdistrict municipality, recounted that he typically works in the Kata Beach area. The beach is usually lined with umbrellas and loungers for tourists.
On this occasion, a vendor approached him, concerned about an elderly woman who had been lying face down for some time. Her body appeared blueish, suggesting she had been dead for a while.
Following this, the police were contacted to investigate further, and a doctor performed a preliminary examination.
KhaoSod later updated the story adding the woman was an 80 year old Canadian tourist, who arrived alone with no relatives accompanying her, and limited personal information was available about her visit.
