Another landslide hit the Ratsada sub-district of Phuket in the early hours of this morning leaving nine houses in the area damaged. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The landslide in the Kata sub-district of Phuket last week killed 13 people, most of whom were migrant workers, and affected more than 200 households in the area. Residents are not yet out of danger due to heavy rain, which caused flooding in many areas of the province.

Unfortunately, another landslide occurred in Ban Thep Buri (also known as Ban Kuku) in the Ratsada sub-district at about 5.30am today, August 28. Officers from Mueang Phuket Police Station and a rescue team rushed to the scene to ensure the residents’ safety.

Fortunately, locals in the area managed to escape from their homes without any injuries. Each resident was seen standing in the rain on the road, with some remaining in a state of shock. At least nine households were damaged in the incident.

Police reported that a loud noise could still be heard from the mountain behind the accommodation, indicating that another landslide was possible. As a precaution, locals have been asked to refrain from staying in their homes.

One of the affected locals, a 45 year old Thai woman named Kanyarat Jakwatee, told Amarin TV that she had just moved into her home 13 days ago. She was sleeping on the first floor when she heard a loud bang.

Kanyarat turned on the light to check the source of the noise and found water flowing from the kitchen at the back of the house, prompting her to evacuate. She revealed that the rooms on the second floor were filled with dirt.

A Thai man named Nop told the media that he saw dirt, mud, and water flowing down from the mountain near the community. His home sustained minor damage to the roof, while his neighbours’ homes were destroyed.

Nop stated that the landslide and flooding occurred because many trees were removed from the mountain last year.
