10 year old dies in football goal accident in Phuket school
A 10 year old Thai boy tragically died after an old rusty football goal crossbar fatally struck him on the head at his school in the Wichit sub-district of Phuket .
Facebook page Phuket Info Center reported the schoolboy’s death, identified as Thanakrit, yesterday, December 17. The page shared pictures of the broken goal at the school in Phuket, accompanied by the following caption:
“Phuket: A 10 year old Grade 4 student hung from the goal’s crossbar at school and swung on it but its beam unfortunately broke and struck his head. He lost consciousness and later died at a hospital. #RIP.”
The photos revealed that the football goal was severely rusted, particularly at the joints where the steel parts were connected. The poorly maintained goal beam was unable to support Thanakrit’s weight, causing it to break and hit the boy on the head.
Many Thai netizens expressed their condolences for the tragic loss while criticising the school for its lack of safety measures. They stated that the school should regularly maintain its equipment to ensure student safety and not wait for accidents to occur.
One commenter on social media revealed the name of the school, identifying it as Ban Ao Nam Bo School in the Wichit sub-district of Phuket.
Another commenter noted that the school’s entry fence was also damaged and had been left unrepaired for a long time, further pointing to negligence by the school administration.
There is no report on whether the boy’s family intends to take legal action against the school for negligence that resulted in his death.
A similar incident occurred in the central province of Samut Prakan in February, when a 28 year old woman, Wanwipa Khiaopo, died after hanging from a football goal beam, making the whole goal frame collapse on her. Wanwipa suffered a severe chest injury, and doctors later revealed that she had died from a heart rupture.
