Thai transwoman caught with crystal meth while filing police report
A Thai transwoman went from being a victim of theft to a drug suspect after unexpectedly presenting crystal methamphetamine to officers at Bang Lamung Police Station in Chon Buri.
The 31 year old transwoman, Nattaphon, arrived at the police station at around 9.30pm on Friday, January 10, to report that a Thai man named Porramate had stolen the key to her Honda City sedan. Police grew suspicious of her complaint, suspecting it might be false, as she appeared confused and irritated the officers.
Nattaphon then became unruly, shouting and causing a disturbance at the station. Police noticed signs of drug use on her arms and called for additional officers to restrain her.
After calming her down, officers continued questioning her about both the car key theft and suspected drug use. In an unexpected turn, Nattaphon retrieved 10 zip-lock bags from her bag, which contained a total of 10.56 grammes of crystal meth. Additionally, 11 syringes were found in her possession.
Police subsequently charged her and documented the evidence by taking photographs. Under the influence of drugs, Nattaphon showed no remorse and even struck a model-like pose while pointing to the evidence.
She then demonstrated how she used the drugs, mixing the crystal meth with saline and mimicking the process of injecting herself in front of the officers.
Nattaphon was charged under Section 162 of the Narcotics Control Act for using a Category 1 drug. The offence carries a penalty of up to one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both.
In a related case, a Thai woman and a transwoman were arrested in December last year for stealing 21,000 baht from a Belgian man in Phuket. The pair reportedly pretended to hug the tourist before stealing his cash. Both were also found in possession of drugs, including crystal meth and methamphetamine (Yaba).
That same month, police raided a drug party at a luxury hotel in Bangkok and arrested 124 gay partygoers. Of those detained, 66 tested positive for drugs. Ecstasy and ketamine were also seized at the event.
