Chon Buri Immigration Police and Pattaya Tourist Police raided a well-known nightclub in Soi 6 Pratumnak, Pattaya, uncovering illegal drug use and other violations. Police acted on complaints regarding a party involving illegal activities at the club, conducting the raid at approximately 10.40pm yesterday, September 15.

During the raid, around 50 individuals, both locals and foreigners were found drinking, smoking marijuana, and dancing to music played by a DJ. The DJ, identified as 41 year old David, a Canadian national, was found working without a valid work permit. The police also found white powder resembling narcotics on the floor, which was collected as evidence.

A 23 year old British tourist named Zico was arrested for carrying a large knife. Zico reportedly panicked during the raid and attempted to escape, leading police on a chase through a banana grove about 800 metres from the club before he was apprehended.

The club’s Thai owner, 26 year old Suwan was also detained. Police discovered that she had employed David without proper documentation and it was reported that she was David’s girlfriend. Despite signs prohibiting marijuana use, several discarded joints were found in the trash can.

Police detained the three suspects and transported them to a local police station for further legal action. The police will recommend the suspension of the club’s license to the appropriate agencies.

Although marijuana is decriminalised in Thailand, smoking inside venues is prohibited except under the supervision of a licensed medical doctor for medical reasons, reported The Pattaya News.

In related news, Bangkok police raided a nightclub in Thonglor for operating without permission and selling alcohol past legal hours, with patrons still drinking and enjoying live music.
