A Pattaya city official reportedly slapped a Thai bar worker during a confrontation, sparking outrage after a video of the incident went viral on Thai social media. The footage shows the official, a municipality worker, appearing to slap the bar worker in the face and attempting to force her into a city pickup truck to take her to the police station.

This incident occurred on August 27, in front of a convenience store on Walking Street in South Pattaya. An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, recounted that an intoxicated bar worker had entered the convenience store and began arguing with the staff.

The situation escalated into shouting and nearly a physical altercation, prompting the store to contact Pattaya City’s special operations officers, also known as the municipality, for intervention.

A city patrol vehicle arrived shortly after, and the officers attempted to escort the woman into the vehicle. She resisted, leading to a confrontation between her and the officers. The eyewitness mentioned that they did not see the officer strike the woman but confirmed she was taken to Pattaya Police Station to calm down.

The woman in the video, 34 year old Da, admitted that she had a few drinks on the day of the incident but claimed she was not heavily intoxicated. According to her, she argued with the convenience store staff, who then called Pattaya city officials to resolve the situation. She believed the store escalated the situation rather than her.

When the city officials arrived, they attempted to place Da into the back of the city pickup truck. As she resisted and flailed her arms, one of the officers allegedly slapped her in the face, according to Da. Following this, she filed a police report at Pattaya Police Station.

However, after filing the report, Da was summoned by the investigating officer two days later for a discussion with the opposing official. The official did not show up, but the police allegedly intimidated her, informing her that she might also face charges for assaulting an officer while they were performing their duties, Da claimed.

Not wanting further trouble, Da decided to drop the charges. She also urged Pattaya police to refrain from using violence and to prevent such incidents from happening again, reported Pattaya News.
