Pattaya City approves 11km monorail project for 2027
Pattaya City has given the green light to an 11-kilometre monorail project, set to connect the Thap Phraya intersection on the western side to Nong Mai Kaen in the east.
During the final public hearing for the proposed Purple Line monorail system on Wednesday, attendees approved the format, blueprint, and environmental impact study for the project’s second phase.
Phutthaset Charoenphat, director of the city’s traffic and transport division, chaired the hearing.
“The feasibility study indicated that, despite high construction and maintenance costs, a monorail is the most suitable option for the city due to its minimal structural footprint.
“The monorail system will pave the way for future urban developments.”
The Purple Line construction will be divided into two parts, linking the Thap Phraya intersection to Nong Mai Kaen, both in the Nong Prue subdistrict of Bang Lamung district.
The planned route will feature 12 stations, spaced 800 to 1,000 metres apart, running along Nong Mai Kaen Road, Phon Prapha Nimit Road, Pattaya Klang Road, and Pattaya Sai 3 Road, before concluding at Thap Phraya Intersection.
City Hall is set to expropriate 635 land plots, covering a total of 64 rai, within the construction zone. This expropriation will impact at least 461 buildings in the area.
The city plans to employ a public-private partnership investment model for the monorail system, with construction slated to begin in 2027, reported Bangkok Post.
In related news, Pattaya City is also gearing up to enhance its public transport with the introduction of another monorail line, which promises to significantly boost the coastal city’s economic development. The Red Line, as it will be known, is set to include 10 stations and cover a distance of 17.37 kilometres.
In other news, Bangkok Land, a publicly traded company, anticipates that the Pink Line monorail will boost traffic and increase the occupancy rate of its exhibitions to 70% within five years.
