Pattaya blitzes illegal signs and sidewalk squatters citywide

Pattaya’s sidewalks just got a little less cluttered and some business owners a lot more nervous.

City officials are ramping up their campaign to reclaim public space under the slogan Done, Doing, and Continuing—for Pattaya, with municipal officers hitting the streets to remove illegal signage and unauthorised structures.

The latest sweep took place yesterday, April 29, in Jomtien, where businesses were found extending their footprint well beyond legal limits.

Officers discovered signs, sunshades, and other fixtures illegally installed on pavements and public land. Business operators were given firm warnings and ordered to remove the encroachments immediately, or face fines.

“The goal is not to punish but to maintain order and accessibility in shared public areas,” one official explained during the inspection. “We want to work with the community to ensure everyone respects the rules.”

But the real storm has been brewing online, with locals taking to social media to applaud and amplify the effort.

Many users called for wider enforcement across Pattaya’s most congested neighbourhoods, reported Pattaya Mail.

“Please come check Soi Pothisarn 1/1,” one user pleaded. “The public road is barely passable—there are clothes hanging out, cars parked in front of homes, and sunshades extending into the street.”

Another called out one of the city’s most notorious nightlife zones.

“Please organise Soi Buakhao. Cars are parked all over the place—it’s a mess!”

Residents also flagged campaign posters as a hazard. “Please do something about campaign signs, too,” one frustrated commenter urged. “They block intersections and make it hard to see when turning.”

One sarcastic post captured the spirit of noncompliance with a tongue-in-cheek jab: “I told you, it’s in front of my shop—I’ll do whatever I want!”

The operation in Jomtien is just the start, according to city officials. More neighbourhoods are slated for inspections in the coming weeks as part of a wider push to improve urban order and accessibility throughout Pattaya.
